A collaboration between Tuska Festival, Sony Music Finland, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, thisisFINLAND, and the Finnish cities of Helsinki, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Kemi, Kuopio, Lahti, Lappeenranta, Oulu, Tampere, and Vaasa, with support from Radio Rock, Record Shop X, Musamaailma, Inferno and Bruno Ribeiro.

Finland is a heavy metal country with over 50 metal bands for every 100,000 people. That’s more metal bands per capita than anywhere else in the known universe. But which Finnish city has the most metal bands? Ulkoministeriö, Helsinki Marketing, and Tuska Festival, we set out to find the Capital of Metal – thus boosting international interest in Finland, especially in the heavy music scene. The voting was made for an online audience, as the ten semifinalist cities all got their own heavy metal logo.
