After two years of cultural starvation, the Savonlinna Opera Festival could finally be held in the summer of 2022. And what a feast it was! For marketing, we concentrated on the theme of pleasure and indulgence and invited cake artist Mona Tähtinen to make Olavinlinna castle out of all edible delicacies. Pekka Hara mastered a visual story with more than just a hint of sin – a cake’s destiny is to be eaten. The individual operas got each a treat their own, Carmen a wobbling jello and Julius Ceaser figs and honey, Aida was resembled by a pyramid of fudge, and Tosca blood red topping on sweet ice cream.
